Ontario's Niagara Escarpment is one of Canada's most scenic landforms. A UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, the Niagara Escarpment is an ancient geological landform stretching 725 km through the most populous areas of the Province of Ontario. The Escarpment is home to Canada’s longest footpath, the Bruce Trail.
The scale of the Niagara Escarpment, following north around and through the Great Lakes was understood in the 1840s. Does anyone know when it was officially described as the "Niagara" escarpment - when that name was first applied to the whole geological form?
